Camden Council’s green waste service will soon be expanding to Ellis Lane, Grasmere and Kirkham.
In February this year, council consulted with residents of Ellis Lane, Grasmere and Kirkham to gain an understanding of their green waste disposal needs and current practices.
More than 40 percent of residents completed the survey with 62 percent of those saying they would utilise the service on a regular basis.
Ccouncil voted to approve the expansion of the service at its meeting last week.
Now each affected residential property in these suburbs will have a 240 litre green waste bin delivered which will be collected weekly alongside their general garbage and recycling bins.
Residents who are able to manage their green waste onsite are able to exercise an opt-out option.
The new service will be implemented over the next three months.
Mayor of Camden, Councillor Lara Symkowiak said she was pleased Camden Council was able to expand its service.
“I am very pleased that Council staff consulted with residents and as a result of that consultation we are now expanding our green waste service to residents in Ellis Lane, Grasmere and Kirkham to meet their needs. “I would like to congratulate the staff at Camden Council for offering further customer service to our residents and increasing our service options.
“I am also pleased that for those residents who wish to add the green waste service to their waste collection, this can be achieved for less than $60 a year, which is roughly the cost of taking one trailer-load of garden waste to the tip.
“This is a very affordable increase and a result of Camden Council managing its waste collection in house.’’
Information on the expanded green waste service will be circulated to residents in coming weeks including details of opting out of the service.
