A recent Australian Financial Review poll of its readers voted John Symond as one of the country’s 10 most influential business, economic and political leaders over the past 60 years.
John Symond, finance legend and Aussie Home Loans founder, is headed to Campbelltown later this month.
Mr Symond has agreed to be the guest speaker at the next scheduled dinner meeting of the Campbelltown Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The meeting is set down for Wednesday, May 20 at Tabcorp Park Menangle, 6 for 6.30pm.
This will be just eight days after treasurer Joe Hockey hands down his second federal budget (tomorrow night) and no doubt Mr Symond will share his thoughts on it with the Campbelltown chamber audience.
Mr Symond, founder and executive chairman of Aussie Home Loans, is widely credited with bringing competition to the Australian home lending industry.
“Aussie’’ was established in 1992 and spawned a whole new non-bank industry.
John Symond is well known as a consumer champion; he was the first non banker to be inducted into the Banking and Finance Magazine Hall of Fame in 2004 and became a Member of the Order of Australia in 2002.
For seven consecutive years “Aussie’’ has been voted Mortgage Broker of the Year in the Australian Banking & Finance Magazine Awards and the Number One brokerage in The Adviser’s Top 25 Brokerages for the last two years.
A supporter of the arts and philanthropy, John Symond received the 2012 Australian Father of the Year award from the Shepherd Centre and in 2013 the Gold Harold Humanitarian Award from Life Education for his ongoing philanthropic interest in children’s causes and charities.
John was past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Sydney Opera House and is a member of the President’s Council for the Art Gallery of NSW.
