Man charged over fatal Elderslie fire

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged over a fire at Elderslie which claimed the life of a 22 year old man earlier this year

He was charged with:

Destroying property to endanger life, destroying property in company using fire, aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence in company, destroying property in company and being armed to commit an indictable offence.

The 23-year-old, who attended Narellan Police Station at 5pm yesterday, has been refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today.

Emergency services were called to Crank Place, Elderslie, about 11.40pm on Saturday, June 1 following reports of a home invasion and a house fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended and after the blaze was extinguished, located the body of a 22-year-old man inside the home.

Camden detectives, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and the Financial Crime Squad’s Arson Unit, established Strike Force Cavenagh to investigate the fire and death of the man.

In a separate incident, a 20 year old man will appear in court today over the alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl he met through social media.

Police will allege in court that the pair met online when the girl was aged 12, before meeting in person on a number of occasions between June and December 2018 in the Southern Highlands area.

During those meetings it’s alleged the man sexually and indecently assaulted her.

The man, who was arrested yesterday, has been charged with procuring a child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity, three counts of having sexual intercourse with person aged 10-14, and three counts of indecent assault of a person under 16.

He has been refused bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court.
