East Campbelltown Eagles are back to a share of the premiership lead after seeing off Asquith on the weekend.

The Eagles won 40-20 off the back of an early four try blitz to bounce back from last week’s loss to Moorebank.

This Saturday they head to Blacktown to take on the Workers at the H.E. Laybutt Oval with a 1pm kick off.

Against Asquith the Eagles ran in four tries in the first 20 minutes to have the home side reeling.

Craig Moustakas, Sean Connor, Mason Talolua and Fili Havea all crossed for four pointers, with Connor converting three from four to give the Eagles a 22-0 lead.

But momentum shifts in rugby league games are as inevitable as night following day and that’s exactly what happened in this game.

Asquith hit back with three tries of their own to go into the sheds at half time a converted try in arrears at 22-16.

And the boys from the Northern Beaches looked like they may go on with it when they scored after the break to trail 22-20.

But that seemed to be a wake up call for  Campbelltown, who went on another attacking rampage that resulted in tries to Theo Leato, Alex Potifara and Craig Moustakas.

Connor kicked three from three to ensure a lead big enough to defend for the Eagles.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“We started like a bull out the gate but through our own errors we allowed Asquith to get back into the game,’’ said Eagles coach Richard Barnes after the match.[/social_quote]

“The boys responded well with a good second half.

“A lot we talked about at training from last week’s game we turned around this week, so that’s a huge positive to take out from this game,’’ Barnes said.

Best for the Eagles were Brett Lahey, Mason Talolua and Amanono Tovio.

In other grades the Eagles under 20s had a hard fought game in a 16-16 draw with Ryde-Eastwood, the women’s team put in a massive effort to defeat third placed Mascot 20-18, while reserve grade team went down to East Hills 18-12.
