Driver, 23, charged after death of passenger in crash near Picton

A 23-year-old man has been refused bail to appear in court today over the death of a passenger in a car that crashed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The accused was allegedly the driver of the car, an SUV, which left the road and rolled along Picton Road, near the intersection of Maldon Bridge Road.

He faces several charges, including aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death – speeding more than 45km over the legal limit, dangerous driving occasioning death – driving speed dangerous, dangerous driving occasioning death – drive in a manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasioning death).

Emergency services were called to the crash site about 4.45am on Sunday. Police reported that the male passenger of the vehicle died on scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The male driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for further assessment and mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command were assisted at the scene by Fire and Rescue NSW.

Police established a crime scene and with the assistance of specialist police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

A teen missing from Western Sydney has been located safe and well. The 14-year-old girl was last seen outside Liverpool Train Station about 11.30pm last Thursday, March 31.

Unable to be located since, Aaeesha Elsoussi was reported missing to officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command, who commenced an investigation into her whereabouts. Following extensive inquiries and an online appeal, the teen was located at a home in Rydalmere on Saturday.

Police said they would like to thank the media and the community for their assistance.
