The Labor Party has been accused of ”preying on the fears of the most vulnerable members of the Campbelltown community”.
The State Member for Campbelltown, Mr Bryan Doyle, says “Labor has revealed its true colours, rolling out a deceitful “Save Our Refuge” scare campaign around the State.
”The truth is that refuge services will continue to be provided and that there has been a funding increase,” he said.
‘After a competitive tender process, St Vincent de Paul will be the preferred service provider under the Going Home Staying Home reforms.
“I know first hand the work being done by FACS, incoming service providers and unsuccessful providers to get the transition to a new system right.
I have been advised that Marcia Women’s Refuge will be able to apply for 18 months of additional funding under the Service Support Fund.
“I am pleased to advise that The South Western Sydney FACS district will receive $14.02 million in 2014/15 – an increase of $342,000 or two percent on 2013/14.”
Going Home Staying Home is the NSW Government’s plan for reform of specialist homelessness services to better protect the vulnerable.
The reform focuses on early intervention, making it easier for people to get help and ensuring services are delivered based on need, not history.
”I am proud to be part of the NSW Government which is committed to delivering the most significant reform to specialist homelessness services in a generation,” Mr Doyle said.
