Head-on crash at Catherine Field claims life of man in his 50s

Police will address the media this morning over the death of a man in a head on collision at Catherine Field last night.

The crash took place along Springfield Road at about 8pm.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a man believed to be aged in his 50s, was declared deceased at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The driver of a white Mercedes sedan, a man believed to be aged in his 30s, was arrested by police and taken to hospital for mandatory drug testing.

Officers from Camden Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic police.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is under way and a report will be prepared for the information of the NSW Coroner.

A third man has been charged over the assault of a 20 year old man in Tahmoor last year.

Detectives investigating the assault attended a Tahmoor home on Saturday where they arrested a man aged 28.

He was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others, dishonestly destroy or damage property for gain by fire or explosive, and false representation resulting in police investigation.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court.

Two men, aged 26, were arrested and charged on February 10 and remain before the courts.

The assault took place in the early hours of the morning on December 27 in a carpark in Thirlmere Way, Tahmoor.

On arrival, police located a 20-year-old man with serious head and facial injuries. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma. He has since been released.

A small hatchback, observed at the scene, was later found burnt out in a nearby carpark.
