Paul Blyton has thrown his hat in the ring for council election.
Council election: It’s the return of the Jedi, says former deputy mayor Paul Blyton, who has thown his hat in the ring for September 10.

Paul Blyton is seeking a return to Campbelltown Council to make a real difference.

The former deputy mayor says that if you look at the performance of Campbelltown Council during the past eight years there’s not much to write home about.

“Well, let’s be honest, they haven’t done much in this period,’’ he says.

Mr Blyton, who will run a full ticket at the September 10 local council elections, says that there are several areas which have been neglected in Campbelltown by current councillors.

And while he doesn’t want to reveal details of some of his policies, Mr Blyton says council needs to be proactive when it comes to improvements in the playing fields around the town.

“There are things that can be done to make local playing fields for footy or cricket or whatever much better facilities for the parents and families who use them,’’ he says.

Mr Blyton also says he has plans for parks set aside for dogs to make it more comfortable for all users.

And he wants a stepped up campaign to make sure Campbelltown Sports Ground is used more often during the course of the year.

“Well, it’s mostly a white elephant, you’d have to say,’’ he says.

“We can definitely do better there and if elected that’s one area where I would steer council to be more proactive,’’ Mr Blyton said.

Number two on the Blyton ticket

He will be announcing the make up of his ticket soon, but he told the Voice in Macarthur his number two candidate would be Gem Peyton, whose family has links to the area going back many generations.

Mr Blyton, who was last on the council in 1999, says the time has come for some action and that is what he will be offering on September 10 to the voters of Campbelltown.

“You can say it’s the Return of the Jedi,’’ he says.
