Campbelltown City Council’s community grants program has injected almost $8,000 into grassroots initiatives in the past six months.

As part of its annual budget, council provides financial support to locally based, non profit community groups.

Amounts of up to $1000 are available to assist community organisations, who do not receive more than $50,000 a year in alternative funding, to develop and support programs and activities that benefit the residents of Campbelltown.

Two funding rounds are held each year, and applications for this year’s second round of grants will open from September 3 and continue until October 9.

In the last funding round, eight community organisations received support to help develop projects, including a literacy and mentoring group for young people, a hands on gardening program for children and a residents group to reduce social isolation.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said council was committed to supporting local initiatives that reflected the diversity of the Campbelltown community.

Application forms and guidelines will be available at an information session to be held on Wednesday, September 2 at 6pm at council’s staff training centre, Queen Street, Campbelltown.

All interested persons are encouraged to attend.

Following the information session, applicants will be invited to participate in day or evening project management workshops.

These help community groups to gain skills in the planning and development of projects.

Applicants must discuss their proposal with a council officer prior to lodging an application.

For more information on eligibility and how to apply for a community grant, contact Council’s Community Resources and Development section on 4645 4579 or visit the community grants program website.
