Chipping Norton product Brendan Hamill has signed a contract  with Western Sydney Wanderers which will keep in red and black until the end of the 2016/17 A-League season.

Born and raised east of the Georges River, the 22-year-old joined the Wanderers in June 2014 and played a key role in the club’s AFC Champions League triumph which included 180 minutes in the two-legged final.

Hamill represented Western Sydney 23 times in the Hyundai A-League, FIFA Club World Cup and AFC Champions League, forging a reputation as a classy defender before a thigh injury ruled him out of the most consistent season of his career.

Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said that Hamill’s re-signing ticked all the boxes.

“He’s talented, he’s a local boy, he has a terrific attitude and he is passionate about the community. Brendan fits into Western Sydney Wanderers in regards to both our club values and playing style.

“We’re delighted that Brendan will be with us for a further two seasons.”

Raised in Chipping Norton, Brendan began playing football with local side Chipping Norton FC before moving around through various state league sides until catching the eye of youth representative teams.

Hamill is extremely happy about his contract extension.

“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity the club has given me and I can’t wait to work hard and bring back the success that the Wanderers had in their first two and a half years,” Hamill said.

“We’re a family club, we’re a community club and we’re a winning club. It makes a combination you can’t say no to.”

The Wanderers continue their AFC Champions League defence this Tuesday as they take on Guangzhou Evergrande in China on Tuesday 5 May. Kick-off is 9pm NSW time. A win combined with a draw in the other Group H fixture will see them qualify for the Round of 16.
