Almost 1,600 people on Sunday took part in the fun but competitive 26th annual Campbelltown City Challenge Walk around the picturesque Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.
Competitors took part in the 6km fun walk and the 11km endurance walk, with the fastest walkers clocking in at 32 minutes and 52 seconds, and 58 minutes and 27 seconds, respectively.
There were 12 different age divisions, four team categories – primary school, secondary school, corporate and open – and the non-competitive wheelchair category.
One of the participants was the mayor of Campbelltown, Councillor George Brticevic.
Speaking after the event, he congratulated all who participated in the event.
“Campbelltown City Council is very pleased to have hosted another successful Campbelltown City Challenge Walk,” he said.
“Not surprisingly, it is one of our city’s most popular events, allowing people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to join together to enjoy a fun, safe and inexpensive form of exercise.
“The event is as much about spending time with family and friends, and enjoying our city’s wonderful community spirit, as it is about good health.
“It’s also a great opportunity to explore the beautiful grounds of the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.”
