Vital help: Camden Survivors are an active community group whose main fundraiser is a women golf day at Studley Park.

For the past 13 years women in Macarthur who have been diagnosed with breast cancer have been able to turn to a local group called Camden Survivors of Breast Cancer for various forms of vital assistance and support.

Camden Survivors can offer financial assistance for treatment costs not listed on the PBS, transport costs to medical appointments and social gatherings, dinner and movie vouchers for those needing a lift, general medical treatment costs, home cleaning services for those unable to do so themselves, medical expense gap refunds, help with breast cancer related physio/lymphatic treatment costs and member outings.

And for 10 of those 13 years Camden Survivors have been able to provide all of these critical forms of assistance via funds mostly raised through an annual Women’s Charity Golf Day.

An active community group, Camden Survivors also hold stands at local Bakers Delights to raise awareness of breast cancer in May every year and are also keenly involved in both the Relay for Life and the 24 hour Fight Macarthur.

But the key fundraiser for them is the women’s golf day.

The day is held in October to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and on this important event Camden Survivors work together with the women of the Camden Golf Club, Studley Park, Narellan.

This year the event is once scheduled to be again held at Camden Golf Club on Monday, October 26.

Organisers are expecting around 140 women to play in teams of four players and the format is Las Vegas Ambrose.

The players are provided with refreshments before tee off by the members of Camden Survivors and lunch is included on the day.

A spokesperson for Camden Survivors, president Melanie Moss, said it was important to point out the key role local business played in this important fundraiser every year.

“We are currently selling raffle tickets for three major prizes which will be drawn on the day, as well as spot raffles at the event and team prizes,’’ Ms Moss said.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Two of our major raffle prizes have been donated by local businesses – first prize, a helicopter joy flight, was donated by United Aero Helicopters based at Camden Airport.[/social_quote]

“And second prize, a 120 litre bar fridge, was donated by Westinghouse and third prize, Maui Jim Sunglasses, was donated by Eyesense Optometrists at Mt Annan Marketplace.

“And most importantly, we’d like to point out the continued support and fundraising efforts of the Camden Golf Club, who without their involvement this would not be a possibility.’’

Melanie Moss says Camden Survivors of Breast Cancer is a friendly, supportive and confidential group to be involved with.

“We have a monthly meeting where we have relevant topics for discussion and try to have a guest speaker every second month.

“There is supper afterwards for a social chat and a laugh. We meet at the Undercroft Room, Camden Civic Centre, Mitchell Street, Camden (opposite Woolworths) every fourth Wednesday of the month at 7pm.’’
