Campbelltown City Council’s July to December calendar of environmental programs has some great ideas on how locals can connect with the environment during the next six months.
The calendar is available online, or by visiting council’s civic centre or branch libraries, and includes a range of practical activities, workshops and awareness campaigns that allow residents to get involved, helping to protect and improve the environment.
Campbelltown boasts pristine bushland, unspoilt waterways and prolific wildlife. There are lots of opportunities to get outdoors and connect with nature – whether it’s bird-watching, bushwalking or Bushcare groups − and it’s all detailed in the calendar.
With the support of council, the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living regularly hosts free workshops for Campbelltown residents, and there are plenty of environmental events to get involved in, including National Tree Day at Noorumba Reserve, Rosemeadow on Sunday, July 30 and Riverfest at Koshigaya Park on Saturday, August 26.
Competitions celebrating nature, including the Threatened species art and writing competition targeting primary school-aged students to raise awareness of the special plants and animals that call Macarthur home, and the Macarthur nature photography competition showcasing our region’s native flora, wildlife and scenery through striking photographs, are highlighted in this issue of the calendar.
Deputy Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Meg Oates, said the calendar included an impressive range of options to give locals and visitors every opportunity to make the most of all Campbelltown had to offer in its own, collective backyard.
