A Macarthur business leader has told a networking function he supports student placements because “youth are our assets of the future’’.
Mr Jim Tzakos, the managing director of the Sevaan Group at Minto, was the guest speaker at the MWLP Linking Youth networking event held at Campbelltown Catholic Club.
Sevaan Group has been offering placements to local students studying metal and engineering for more than seven years.
“By taking work placement students we get to teach them, with the hope that it will lead them into future apprenticeships,’’ Mr Tzakos told the educators and business leaders who attended the function.

Mr Tzakos said he welcomed the opportunity to meet VET coordinators, teachers and administrators to exchange experiences.
These vital stakeholders work closely with MWLP to ensure Year 11 and 12 students studying vocational courses as part of their HSC receive the best work placements possible.
Students are required to complete two weeks compulsory work placement and without support from dedicated educators and businesses this would not be possible.
MWLP coordinates around 6,000 work placements each year and held the networking event to share information, update attendees on their latest best practice in work placement and build stronger relationships.
A Q&A session was also a very popular part of the networking event for the VET coordinators, teachers and administrators who attended.
Another highlight of the day was MWLP announcing the relaunch of its Honour Roll.
It means students who exceed at their work placement are nominated by their hosts to go onto the Honour Roll.
The best students will be announced at a gala awards night to be held later in the year.
Industries that are part of the Honour Roll are automotive, business services, construction, electro technology, entertainment, hospitality, human services, information and digital technology, metal and engineering, primary industries, retail and tourism.
