In court: 43 year old man faces string of sexual assault charges

A man has been charged with a string of sexual and indecent assaults of a girl known to him.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation in January following reports a girl had been sexually and indecently assaulted by a person known to her.

Following extensive investigations, a 43-year-old man was arrested at a home at Kearns yesterday.

He was taken to Macquarie Fields Police Station, where he was charged with 13 counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a person aged between 14 and 16, six counts of indecent assault with a person under the age of 16, and aggravated sexual assault with a person under the age of 16.

Police will allege the girl was sexually and indecently assaulted on a number of occasions while at the man’s home earlier this year.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Campbelltown Local Court yesterday, and is due to reappear at the same court on May 31.

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.

♦ In a separate incident, a man has appeared in court over an alleged aggravated indecent assault of a 15 year old boy on a train between Macarthur and Campbelltown railway stations.

The man was arrested by members of the Police Transport Command’s Operation Artemis.

It’s alleged that on April 4 a 15-year-old boy boarded a train at Tahmoor, near Macarthur Railway Station when he was allegedly indecently assaulted by a man.

The train terminated at Campbelltown where the man exited the station on Hurley Street.

The young boy also left the train at Campbelltown and was escorted by a witness to Campbelltown Police Station and reported the incident.

A day later and following investigations by officers attached to Campbelltown Police Transport Command, a 70-year-old man was arrested at Campbelltown Railway Station.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with aggravated indecent assault.
