Bulls FC Academy produced a statement performance on Sunday afternoon, powering to a dominant 5-0 victory over Macarthur Rams at Lynwood Park in the National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s match of the round.
It took just four minutes for the visitors to stamp their authority on the round 15 contest, with the in-form Olivia Vanderlaan finding space inside the area before unselfishly squaring for Petria Phillips, who finished calmly past Sofia Fante to open the scoring.
The Bulls doubled their lead in the 16th minute through Amber Luchtmeijer after a defensive error fell kindly to the striker, who held off Chantelle Maniti before finishing with composure to make it 2-0.
Phillips went close to a second shortly after, unleashing a powerful free-kick that was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by Fante, while the Rams then looked to respond and nearly halved the deficit on 25 minutes when Gabrielle Sarkis struck the post, followed by an excellent save from Ashley Hughes to deny Megan Mifsud on the rebound.
However, Bulls FC Academy punished those missed chances almost immediately, with captain Gemma Ferris making it 3-0 in the 26th minute, arriving at the back post to volley home after Liz Grey’s header from a corner dropped into her path.
The Rams continued to battle, with Fante producing another strong save to deny Luchtmeijer before half-time, while Hughes also made a remarkable goal-line stop from a set piece to ensure the score remained 3-0 at the break.
Just four minutes into the second half, the Bulls extended their lead again through Daniel Naeimi, with credit going to Jynaya Dos Santos, who weaved through the defence before her shot struck the crossbar and fell perfectly for Naeimi to convert.
Dos Santos continued to influence the game, creating another chance for Luchtmeijer, although Fante saved with her legs in an incident that unfortunately led to an injury substitution.
There was also a special moment for Bulls midfielder Indi Dos Santos, who returned to action after 12 months out with an ACL injury, marking a significant milestone late in the match.
Luchtmeijer capped off the performance with her second goal in the 82nd minute, racing onto a loose ball outside the box before driving into the area and finishing emphatically to complete the 5-0 scoreline.
Marcella Santos struck the woodwork in stoppage time for the Rams, but it was a dominant afternoon for the Bulls, who have consolidated their second spot on the ladder.
The defeat marks Macarthur Rams’ first loss in over a month.
