Arenco, a construction company which has been responsible for the construction of almost 100 bridges, has won the contract to finalise a design and build an upgrade to the bridge at Bunbury Curran Creek on Railway Parade at Glenfield.

The $18 million project will widen the bridge and its approaches, upgrade the shared pathway on the bridge, increase the load capacity to 120 tons and enhance the surrounding walking and cycling network.

Construction will start on July 6. Railway Parade will be closed during construction and detours will be in place.

Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound said the improvements will help alleviate congestion on the local road network and facilitate the movement of larger vehicles.

“The project will significantly upgrade the load-carrying capacity of the Railway Parade Bridge, ensuring businesses in the north of Campbelltown are better connected to major business hubs and key transport routes such as the M31 Motorway,” he said.

“Glenfield is growing quickly, so it’s important that local infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of the area, and this upgrade will greatly improve efficiency for residents accessing Glenfield Railway Station using public transport, walking or cycling, while delivering significant benefits to the local business community,” Cr Lound said.

“We’re delighted to welcome Arenco on board as the contractor for this project. They bring significant experience in delivering projects of this type, and we look forward to working alongside their team to deliver a great outcome for the community,” he said.

The project is expected to be completed between late 2026 and early 2027. During the construction period, traffic and pedestrian detours will be in place.

The upgrade is jointly funded by the NSW Government through the Western Sydney infrastructure grants program.

Member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong, a minister in the NSW Government, said the bridge upgrade would enhance connectivity to the Glenfield Station precinct.

“A major connection to Glenfield Station, the bridge upgrade will significantly improve public transport and active transport access to the rail network and surrounding business district.

“I look forward to the project delivering a positive outcome for our growing community,”
Mr Chanthivong said.
