New survey says most people love living in the Wollondilly Shire. Picture supplied.

Around 95 percent of Wollondilly Shire residents who participated in a council survey rated their quality of life as good to excellent. This was a two percent increase from last year’s survey.

The 95 percent positive rating is higher than other similar council areas (85 percent), and above the local government benchmark of 92 percent.

Wollondilly Council says the results of its annual community satisfaction survey show that residents are embracing life in the Shire more than ever. Overall satisfaction with council has also increased significantly.

In its media release, council did not include the number of people who participated in the survey.

The rural characteristics and lifestyle, peacefulness, sense of community, and natural environment have remained the most valued aspects of living in the Wollondilly Shire.

According to the survey, 84 percent of residents are satisfied with council’s performance; a 3 percent increase from 2025, and significantly higher than the comparative council benchmark of 68 percent.

Residents are happier with how the Shire has been run over the last 12 months, with the survey showing that 80 percent of residents are at least somewhat satisfied with the performance of Wollondilly’s elected councillors, compared to 76 percent in 2025 – the best result since the question was included in the survey in 2020.

Roads, improved infrastructure to support growth, facilities such as schools, hospitals and supermarkets, and traffic management were rated by respondents as the top priorities for the Shire.

“These survey results are a great reflection on the progress we’ve made in the past year and the focus that has been placed on improving services and facilities for the community, right across the Shire,” says Mayor Matt Gould.

“As we have used the same independent provider for many years, it is great to see the year-on-year improvements which indicate that we are on a positive trajectory. There is certainly more work to do, but these results show that we are on the right track.

“We will continue to build on our massive efforts to improve the condition of Wollondilly’s roads, investing significantly to repair our road network that has suffered from natural disasters and historical underinvestment.

“We will also keep up our advocacy to bring better services and infrastructure to the Shire to support the growth that is happening.

“I’m not surprised that 95 percent of participants rate the quality of life in the Wollondilly Shire as either good or excellent. This is a beautiful part of the world to live in and one we all love.”

“Congratulations to my fellow councillors, all the hardworking staff at council and our wonderful community. I look forward to working together with my fellow councillors and our staff to maintain and continue this overall positive trend.”
