Community groups, businesses and other organisations are being invited to register their International Women’s Day activities with Campbelltown City Council, for inclusion in a calendar of events.
International Women’s Day, held on 8 March each year, aims to inspire and empower women, and activities are held throughout March which focus on respect and appreciation for women, and celebrate their economic, political and social achievements.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, encouraged locals to host their own International Women’s Day activities, and to make the most of this opportunity to promote their event to the wider community.
“This is the first time council has put together the calendar of events for International Women’s Day and we are endeavouring to include as many activities as possible,” he said.
“It’s important that the Campbelltown community bands together to celebrate the success of women from all backgrounds on 8 March, and to recognise the valuable contribution of women across our community.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“It’s also vital that we highlight that, although we have made progress towards equality as a society, there is still a lot of work to do – in our own backyards and across the world – before women are treated as equal in all areas.[/social_quote]
“The more activities and events we hold, the more likely these key messages will resonate.”
International Women’s Day activities aim to develop the skills and independence of women, and build their knowledge in areas which are traditionally dominated by men.
Activities could include:
• interactive skill-building workshop
• information session relevant to women
• entertainment activity for women
• encouraging women to learn about areas traditionally linked to men
• promoting and advertising special offers celebrating International Women’s Day
If you are hosting an International Women’s Day activity, register your interest in featuring your activity in the calendar by Monday, January 23.
The calendar will be available in digital and print format by mid-February, for distribution to all participants and the wider community.
