Police from Campbelltown are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery of a service station overnight.

About 9pm last night, August 18, a 22-year-old male employee was behind the security counter of a service station on Lindesay Street.

He was approached by a man, believed to be Caucasian in appearance and aged in his late teens or early 20’s, who verbally threatened the employee.

A second man, with a similar description, walked into the store and approached the counter armed with a baseball bat. He struck the employee in the face causing him to suffer a severe nose bleed.

The man then attempted to get behind the secure area by jumping up on the counter and forcing the wires apart, still swinging his bat.

The employee armed himself with a metal pole and as the armed man swung the baseball bat he lost grip and the bat ended up inside the secure area with the employee.

Both men ran from the store empty-handed.

A crime scene was established while police conduct a full investigation.
