Avalanche of points as rugby league attacks dominate games

An avalanche of points were scored in round eight of the Macarthur Conference rugby league premiership on the weekend.

All up, 328 points were scored across the five games of what we used to call the Group 6 competition.

Three sides posted more than 50 points in their games, Oakdale Workers, who defeated the gallant South West Goannas 54-12, The Oaks Tigers 52-4 against the Campbelltown City Kangaroos and Thirlmere Roosters with a 52-22 win over Narellan Jets.

The Mittagong Lions went close to being part of the 50 plus club, but fell short by just two points when they defeated the Campbelltown Collegians 48-30, in what was a very tough, physical game – as the post match picture above shows.

On an individual basis, Mittagong fullback James Coyne was – surprisingly – the only player to score a hat-trick, while Oaks Tigers winger Benjamin Payne bagged a double.

Meanwhile Marika Tuilau and Tim Simona bagged doubles for Thirlmere Roosters.

Camden Rams, who continue to lead the competition on the ladder, are back in action this weekend, taking on Narellan Jets in a local derby.

Second placed Oakdale head to Campbelltown and Fullwood Reserve for their clash with the Kangaroos, while the Goannas host Mittagong at Onslow. The full draw is below.
