In a massive blow to their finals chances, Macarthur FC captain Ulises Davila has been ruled out for the remainder of the A-League season due to a knee injury.
The 31-year-old playmaker was diagnosed with a torn meniscus after Saturday night’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle Jets and underwent surgery on Wednesday.
The injury is set to sideline the Bulls captain for at least three months, meaning Davila won’t return before the end of this season.
The Mexican maestro has been the team’s only fair dinkum X-factor player every week and will be impossible to replace.
Bulls travel to Parramatta this Saturday in round 18 to take on cross-city rivals Western Sydney Wanderers, a team Davila loves scoring goals against – five up to now.
The home side are sitting in fourth place on the A-League ladder, while the Bulls are three points out of the top six.
With nine rounds left, time is starting to run out for Macarthur FC.
Western Sydney Wanderers FC defeated the Bulls 4-0 in their most recent A-League Men clash on New Year’s Day 2023.
The home side will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses at CommBank Stadium for the first time in over a year.
Macarthur FC have won only two of their last 15 A-League games played away from Campbelltown Stadium and have lost their last three such fixtures on the bounce by a combined score of 11-1.
Which means new coach Mile Sterjovski needs to keep working on the team’s defence, which has been a little wobbly this season – and that’s been kind.
The Bulls will return to Campbelltown on Sunday, March 5 when they will host the Brisbane Roar from 3pm.
