Erica Lane runs off Redfern Road just metres away from Minto railway station.
The old shopping area of Minto was the heart of the community back in the day before Minto Mall and a railway bridge came along.
It still packs a punch, though, with popular restaurants and a local pub attracting plenty of customers to this part of Campbelltown.
Next month it will relive its glory days when Erica Lane is lit up and transformed for a night of multicultural performances celebrating Minto’s rich cultural diversity.
And everyone’s invited to Light Up the Lane 5pm to 9pm on Saturday, February 1.
There will be music and dance performances from local performers, outdoor dining with food and dessert trucks, kids art competition, market stalls selling traditional clothing and accessories, face painting and giveaways.
Light Up the Lane is being organised by Uniting Minto, a new group of local residents who will plan to organise events and activities to promote the vibrant community in the area, with support from Campbelltown Council.
The event will also be a celebration of upgrades completed in Erica Lane, including two new murals, festoon lighting and planting.
It’s all part of council’s Love Minto place making project with the beautification works completed in Erica Lane to help bring more vibrancy to Minto and celebrate its diversity.
“It’s great to see spaces like Erica Lane brought to life with a community event like this,” Mayor George Brticevic said.
“Minto is a really vibrant multicultural community and I’d encourage everyone to come down and experience the performances and music of the various cultural groups we have in Minto,” Cr Brticevic said.
But more than that it will also be a walk back in memory lane – Erica Lane that is.
PS. This event, which is free to attend, will also be a fundraiser for fire affected communities, so give generously when you’re there on Saturday, February 1.
