A Campbelltown Council child care educator has taken out a major award at the 2016 NSW Training awards.

Ms Thompson was named Trainee of the Year for the Southern and South West Sydney Region.

She was presented with the award last week, on June 23.

In September Ms Thompson will take on the state at the NSW Training Awards – the largest celebration of vocational education and training in Australia.

She started her education and care career as a trainee at Campbelltown Council’s Wombat Willows Early Learning Centre.

Her 18 month traineeship for a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care combined practical experience with formal learning.

In recognition of her commitment and passion, Ms Thompson was employed as a casual educator with council in February of this year.

Congratulations from Campbelltown Council

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said that council looked forward to supporting Karen at the upcoming State awards event, and congratulated her on her achievements to date.

“Council’s Education and Care Services team has long-been recognised as one of the best in the country.

“The team boasts a number of individual and group accolades.

“We are the first council in Australia to achieve Exceeding National Quality Standard as part of the national child care service assessment framework,” Cr Hawker said.

Ms Thompson, along with nine other regional finalists, will now participate in a State award interview process during July.

This will be followed by the presentation of the 2016 NSW Training Awards on September 8.
