Members of Liverpool for Yes will be knocking on doors this Saturday to ask local residents to support recognition and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the October 14 referendum.

Liverpool for Yes is a grassroots campaign in support of the constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through a voice to parliament.

They are targeting the key battleground area of South West Sydney in their fight to win a historic Yes vote in the upcoming referendum.

Rayan Calimlim, local captain for Liverpool for Yes, said that volunteers were excited to engage with local communities on this once in a generation referendum.

“This is a massive week for the campaign in South West Sydney, with the first doorknock for Yes in the region taking place in West Hoxton,” Mr Calimlim said.

“Our volunteers are looking forward to the prospect of constitutional change, and are ready to have conversations with our diverse communities about why voting Yes will bring about positive change for our area and for our nation.

“Local people understand the importance of having a voice on the matters that affect them – and we’re excited about the practical implications a Yes vote will have for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people around issues like health, education and housing.

“We’re looking forward to having quality conversations about this simple and sensible proposal that residents will have a chance to vote on come October 14 – that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will be guaranteed the right to give their views on policies that will affect them and their communities.”
