Passenger dies in early morning crash on Menangle Road

One person has died following a head-on crash near Douglas Park in the early hours of this morning.

The collision occurred about 4.20am along the eastbound side of Menangle Road, around four kilometres from the intersection with Picton Road.

Units from the Camden police command responded to the incident.

The male driver of a west bound ute escaped; however, a back seat passenger was unable to be released before the vehicle caught fire. That person died at the scene.

A man driving the east bound vehicle escaped with arm injuries. He was the only occupant.

Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit have also been called to the scene.

Menangle Road was expected to be closed for some hours.

Road diversions have been put in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible. Check www.livetraffic.com for updates.

A police officer has been charged with assault offences following an alleged workplace incident on June 29.

It’s alleged an altercation occurred at a police station within the South West Metropolitan Region involving a male sergeant and a second officer.

Following extensive inquiries, the 51-year-old sergeant was issued a court attendance notice for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on October 19.

Police are appealing for public help to locate this teenager who has been reported missing.

Ryan Taylor, aged 14, was last seen on September 5. When he was unable to be contacted, officers from Camden Police Area Command, who were notified on Saturday, September 9, commenced inquiries to locate him.

Ryan is described as Caucasian appearance, about 170cm tall, thin build, blue eyes and blond hair.

He was last seen wearing a black hoodie jumper, black t-shirt, black trackpants and black shoes.

Ryan is known to frequent the Campbelltown, Leumeah and Gledswood Hills areas.

Inquiries have established that Ryan maybe associating with another male teenager.

Anyone who sees Ryan or has any information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Camden Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
