Four Year 12 students from Leumeah High recently attended a business networking breakfast for women.
Each month BRAS (Business Relationships at Sunrise) give four local students an opportunity to attend their breakfast at no charge, offering them vital links to business.
Not only were these young women treated to a delicious hot breakfast at the Hermitage, Macarthur’s top fine dining establishment, they learnt the importance and value of networking.
“This was an eye opening experience and it was great to meet people from the local community,’’ says Katelyn Evans, one of the students who attended the breakfast.
“Listening to different people’s stories was really inspiring and has helped me understand a little bit more about the endless opportunities that are available.”
Another student, Sarvannah Matahau, said: “This morning was a fantastic way to meet ladies within our community who are leaders of their profession.
“Each shared different stories and empowered us young girls to be confident and to just try our best.
“I have learnt that it is ok to do many different jobs throughout your life just as long as you follow your heart and love what you do.”
Another participating student, Sheetal Sharma, is interested in a career in medical science and research and BRAS is now arranging for Sheetal to connect with the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research.
Leumeah High School teacher Rachael Alexander, who accompanied the girls, said, “the students left breakfast feeling inspired and motivated.
“They thoroughly enjoyed meeting professional business women and listening to their career journeys,’’ Ms Alexander said.

MWLP links the schools to BRAS and marketing and communication manager Sue Scobie says, “it’s inspiring to see such positive interaction and feedback.”
