Here’s something that can be achieved despite the lockdown restrictions: competing for the inaugural Fisher’s Ghost writing prize.
Aspiring writers in Campbelltown can now enter their own short stories, narrative non-fiction, memoirs or poetry in the newly minted competition.
Council has partnered with Westwords to deliver the inaugural prize, which is open to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Campbelltown from grade four and above.
Entrants must address this year’s theme, Hiding in Plain Sight.
“The Fisher’s Ghost writing prize is a great new initiative for budding writers of any age in Campbelltown to have a go at producing their own written works,” says mayor George Brticevic.
“Campbelltown is full of creative people with many great stories to tell and this is an opportunity for them to share their talents and pick up some tips to help develop their writing along the way,” Cr Brticevic said.
Entry categories include:
- Adult
- School students grade 4-6
- School students grade 7-9
- School students grade 10-12
A range of prizes are available, including $300 for the winner of the adult prize and $100 for the winners of each of the school student categories. Entries close on October 5.
Winners will be announced during the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost in the first weekend of November.
