Are you interested in learning how to support and care for family and friends experiencing loss, grief and dying?
Do you want to join like minded local people to create a more compassionate community?
The South Western Sydney Primary Health Network (SWSPHN) is bringing locals together at two workshops at Camden and Campbelltown to build community partnerships, and ultimately, compassionate communities.
The workshops aim to engage and educate participants in ways to promote the emotional, social, physical, spiritual and cultural wellbeing of people who are frail, experiencing loss, are ageing, dying or grieving.
“We want to empower our communities to support each other during life’s most testing moments and experiences, and our workshops will give participants the tools necessary to build the networks needed to provide that support,” says SWSPHN chief executive, Dr Keith McDonald.
“I’d encourage locals to come along and hear from experts in palliative care, ask questions and connect with other community minded people committed to creating a better community.”
The workshop speakers will be Dr John Rosenberg, teacher, researcher and advocate for public health palliative care and Wendy Gain, project facilitator at PACCS (Palliative Aged Care Consultancy Service).
The first workshop will be held at Camden Civic Centre’s Community Room, Oxley Street, on Saturday, August 3, from 9am to 4pm. To register for the Camden event, visit www.eventbrite.com.au/compassionate-communities-camden.
The second will be at Campbelltown Golf Club’s Lakeview Room, on Saturday, August 17, 9am to 4pm. To register for the Campbelltown event, visit www.eventbrite.com.au/compassionate-communities-campbelltown
SWSPHN will also host a free information session and discussion at Liverpool City Library on Dying to Know Day, Thursday, August 8, 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
Whether you have a medical condition which is life limiting or you feel fine, you’re invited to come along and learn more about what you should know and how to plan before you go.
Topics covered will include what is palliative care and why it isn’t only about dying or cancer, advance care planning and dementia.
