Nott Oval in Narellan will soon have a brand new amenities building with additional facilities and spaces for the community to enjoy.
Construction of the new amenities building was scheduled to start on Monday, May 23.
The project will cost $600,000.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Lara Symkowiak said she was delighted that the existing facility will be replaced with a new and improved building to better service the needs of its users, and the wider community.
“Last year, Council allocated funding towards the renovation and replacement of a number of amenities at various locations throughout the LGA.
“Nott Oval was recommended for replacement, and we consulted with users of this facility to understand their needs for a new building.
“The new amenities building will provide modern and spacious facilities and much-needed storage for the Narellan Rangers and their 1,000 plus members who regularly use the Oval.
“The community will also be able to enjoy these further improvements that will be made to the grounds.
“This is a fantastic result and demonstrates Council’s commitment to the provision of quality sporting facilities for our residents,’’ Cr Symkowiak said.
The new amenities building will feature:
• a disabled accessible ramp
• public male and female toilets
• a unisex disabled accessible toilet
• shower and change rooms
• Referees room
• store rooms
♦ In other Camden news, an oval within the Kirkham Park Rugby League sporting fields has been named the Harvey Shephard Playing Field.
In front of a large crowd at Kirkham Park earlier this month, Councillor Symkowiak, along with Councillor Greg Copeland, State Member for Camden, Chris Patterson and members of the Shephard family and Camden Rugby League Football Club took part in the unveiling of a plaque.
Councillor Symkowiak said she was honoured to be invited to take part in such a significant occasion for the club.
“Harvey Shephard was a long term member of the original club that organised the funding and construction of the field and clubhouse,’’ the mayor said.
“He was instrumental in establishing the level playing field as it is today and was the primary groundskeeper for approximately 25 years.
“Mr Shephard was a regular visitor to the sporting field and performed many tasks. He contributed countless hours to the club volunteering and fundraising as well as being a member of the Referees’ Appointment Board, Group 6 Judiciary Board and the manager of numerous junior sides.
“I think Mr Shephard is more than deserving of this recognition. I am pleased that together Council, the Shephard family and the club were able to make this possible,” Cr Symkowiak said.
