The good news is that construction has got under way from today to upgrade the bridge at Bunbury Curran Creek on Railway Parade at Glenfield.
The not so good news for motorists and pedestrians is that from today (Monday, July 6), detours will be in place, and Railway Parade will be closed between the bridge at Bunbury Curran Creek and Salisbury Avenue.
The $18 million project will widen the bridge and its approaches, upgrade the shared pathway on the bridge, increase the load capacity to 120 tons and enhance the surrounding walking and cycling network.
“The Railway Parade Bridge is a key local connection, and on completion these works will provide a more reliable, and accessible link for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists to and from Glenfield town centre,” saysd Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Darcy Lound.
“This upgrade will replace an ageing structure with a modern bridge that meets the needs of commuters who use it every day.
“As our city continues to grow, it’s important our infrastructure keeps up to ensure everyone who travels over the bridge can do so safely,” Mayor Lound said.
The Railway Parade bridge upgrade is funded by the NSW Government through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.
Member for Macquarie Fields and NSW Government minister Anoulack Chanthivong says the bridge upgrade would significantly improve access to the rail network and surrounding business district.
“A major connection to Glenfield Station, the bridge upgrade will meet the needs of our growing community now and into the future by providing greater connectivity for all users.”
The project is expected to be completed by mid-2027.
