Campbelltown will put out the welcome mat for South Korea’s women’s football team in the middle of next year.

The South Koreans will make Campbelltown their home base during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament, bringing with it a massive spotlight on our neck of the woods.

FIFA today confirmed Campbelltown as one of 16 team base camps during the Women’s World Cup, which is being hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to  August 20 next year.

South Korea will use Campbelltown Stadium as a training venue during and before the tournament starts.

“The FIFA Women’s World Cup promises to be a massive nation-wide event that will draw people from all across the world,’’ says Campbelltown mayor, George Greiss.

“We’re really excited to be hosting the South Korean team in our city during the tournament.

“It’s a ringing endorsement for the quality of Campbelltown Stadium’s pitch and our capacity to host top-class international teams during one of the world’s biggest sporting events,” Cr Greiss said.

“We look forward to welcoming the South Korean team and helping them to prepare for their World Cup matches,” he said.

South Korea have been drawn in Group H and will kick off their campaign against Colombia on July 25 at Sydney Football Stadium.

The team’s most recent success came at the 2022 AFC Asian Cup, where they finished the tournament as runners-up following a thrilling final against China.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 chief operating officer Jane Fernandez said the selection of team base camps marked an exciting tournament milestone.

“Team base camps are hugely important to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, offering them for the first time not only provides our teams with the very best environment to prepare for matches, but they also give local communities in NSW the opportunity to connect with the world’s best teams,” Ms Fernandez said.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup will feature 32 teams competing in 64 matches across Australia and New Zealand during July and August with seven games at the Sydney Football Stadium and four at Stadium Australia, including a semi final and the final.
