Councillor Isabella Wisniewska wants Campbelltown women to take back the night – for exercise.
At next Tuesday’s meeting, the young Labor councillor (pictured above) will table a plan in which council will host a safe training night for women once a week.
She says the Campbelltown Athletics Centre would be a great venue for such a “take back the night’’ activation.
Cr Wisniewska’s notice of motion calls for a report to investigate the feasibility of hosting “a weekly, after-dark open training night for women of all abilities to walk, jog or run at a suitable facility (for example Campbelltown Athletics Centre) to promote a safe and inclusive environment for women to exercise at night.’’
The councillor wants the report to be prepared promptly so the weekly after-dark open training night – if approved by a majority of councillors next Tuesday night – can be offered this winter.
There’s no reasons any councillors would object to Cr Wisniewska’s proposal, but there’s bound to be questions asked, especially about the cost to ratepayers.
Councillor Josh Cotter will also table a notice of motion for the Tuesday meeting.
He is calling for a report on parking accessibility within the surrounding Campbelltown Bowling Club area, including Browne Street and surrounding council-managed parking areas.
Cr Cotter says he wants the report to deal with concerns the parking needs of seniors and local users could be compromised by commuter or long-term parking.
He wants the report to address the current parking conditions within the Campbelltown Bowling Club area, including Browne Street and nearby Council-managed parking areas, the parking demand and usage patterns, including the extent of commuter and long-term parking.
And he is asking that it looks at potential parking management responses to any problems identified.
Responses include timed parking arrangements, permit or exemption options, measures to support accessibility for seniors and less mobile community members, identification of feasible options, including indicative costs and operational implications.
