Wollondilly Meals on Wheels provider stretched to the limit

IC Care, the primary Meals on Wheels service provider in Wollondilly, is stretched to the limit for the first time in 49 years and is calling for more government funding.

It has launched a petition and is urging everyone in the community to get behind it.

IC Care is a not-for-profit community organisation in the Wollondilly and Camden local government areas.

It also helps frail older people who require assistance with daily living to remain independently at home and in the community.

IC Care, a member of Meals on Wheels NSW, says it has had to close its books to new clients as its existing services are at capacity.

It says that for many years IC Care has been covering for inadequate government funding, but it has reached the point they can no longer continue to do that.

It has resulted in any new client enquiries being rejected for meal deliveries through Meals on Wheels, as well as requests for transportation to medical appointments.

In a double whammy, demand for these services has been growing because of Wollondilly’s ageing population.

“It’s hard to say that I can’t help,” says Nicole, executive assistant of programs at IC Care.

“I’ve never had to say no to anyone and having to do this for the first time in over 20 years, it’s really hurting,” Nicole said.

“If we do not provide a meal who does?’’

IC Care is urging members of the community to sign and share the petition below to help amplify their message and ensure that the elderly receive the care and support they deserve.

  1. Cost of living has increased and meals on wheels needs Government assistance now or the old people will have nothing to eat , this is very sad to hear after 49 years.
