Look out for dinosaurs in Mt Annan Botanic Garden on August 20.

Even in winter the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is usually one of the best attractions in the Macarthur region.

But a host of special activities mean it’s much more than a beautiful place to have a picnic with family and friends during the cooler months.

Some of the highlights this winter include:

• Tom’s Nocturnal Discovery Tour (Fri 3 June, Fri 1 July, Fri 5 August): Join Tom and follow the sounds and signs of creatures hidden in the garden at night. You might even spot a glow-in-the-dark scorpion!

• Birdlife Photography (Sat 4 June): Wouldn’t you love to know how to capture the beauty of birds on camera? This workshop will take you through all the tricks necessary to master the perfect shot.

• Frozen: Story of the Seed (Sat 11 June): Australian PlantBank is home to over 5,300 species of seed and is a world-leading research facility for plant conservation. Take an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour with one of our leading researchers and uncover the story of the seed and why this work is critical to the future of human life.

• Tour the Garden on Bike (All season): Bring your bicycle and get the blood pumping with a pedal around more than 20 scenic kilometres of track.

• Get Your Geek On School Holiday Science Fun (Mon 4 July – Wed 13 July): Science is fun with these holiday activities for school-aged children, including Lego robotics, forensics and crazy chemical concoction-making.

• Jurassic Garden (Sat 20 August): This free event celebrates National Science Week with activities like wildlife spotting, science experiments and fossil finding. But keep an eye out for dinosaurs roaming the Garden looking for their next meal!
