The Australian Botanic Garden at Mt Annan is right at the heart of Macarthur between Camden and Campbelltown.

Whether it’s exploring Australia’s largest botanic garden, bushwalking in our national parks or discovering our heritage treasures, the Macarthur region is bursting with ideas on how to spend a lazy Sunday, experience an adrenalin rush or enjoy a weekend escape.

The fast-growing and vibrant region takes in the Campbelltown and Camden local government areas in south west Sydney and is well connected by rail and road to Sydney, the south coast and Canberra.

An emerging cosmopolitan lifestyle is seeing the area become an enviable destination for good food and wine, adventure sports and getting back to nature.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said Macarthur is where the “city meets the country’’ and it’s all about enjoying the best lifestyle opportunities that the unique blend of both worlds can bring.

“You can enjoy fine dining featuring some of the best local cuisine and produce, engage in  world-class cultural or sporting experiences, or simply get away from it all and be surrounded by pristine bushland or on the banks of the Georges River in the blink of an eye,” Cr Lake said.

“Macarthur boasts so many hidden treasures – you can go from sunrise to sunset and only have scratched the surface. Locals will tell you how much they love the area – we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do.

“We’re definitely a destination that’s growing, and with this comes opportunities for Macarthur to thrive. But now that the secret is out, don’t leave your visit too late while those tranquil spots are still just that – tranquil,” Cr Lake added.
