Wests Tigers have ramped up their community engagement in South West Sydney.
Last week the club hosted their 2018 Macarthur Community Dinner to celebrate some of the key projects they are involved in as part of their community strategy in this region.
Wests Tigers significantly increased their community engagement in Macarthur following the development of the club’s first community strategy.
This strategy centres on six key pillars that focus on education, indigenous, multiculturalism, women, healthy living and grassroots.
As part of this strategy, local organisation MWLP Linking Youth commenced working with Wests Tigers last year to run a young women’s leadership program at Leumeah High School.
Shaun Spence, former player and now fan engagement and community manager for Wests Tigers, spoke at the Macarthur dinner about the success of the program.
He told guests that Wests Tigers and MWLP planned to run more successful leadership programs in schools this year.
Sue Scobie, MWLP’s marketing and communication manager, who also attended the community dinner, said: “Many of the players attended and mixed with guests.
“It was refreshing to see the reaction to the inspiring work their club is doing in the Macarthur region.
“I got to meet Luke Brooks, welcome back Benji Marshall and welcome Josh Reynolds to the club.
“Let’s hope they have their best season yet.”
MWLP’s next initiative is the jobs for youth night at Wests Leagues Club on March 5.
It will be followed by one of the highlights of the year, hospitality week at Camden High during March 13-17.
This will incorporate the meet the chef and meet the barista programs and masterclasses for students, teachers and parents.
“We will also be running the long lunch component where students complete the assessment tasks of their VET course and serve it up to the public at a long lunch at the school.’’
MWLP is a not-for-profit community organisation and its work focuses on improving education and transition outcomes for young people; especially in preparing them for the world of work, nurturing aspiration, career management and entrepreneurialism, and at the same time addressing the needs of employers.
