Wests Tigers coach happy with second half effort

After a brilliant second half defensive effort in the 28-16 victory against the Sharks last weekend, Wests Tigers head to Queensland full of confidence for the round four clash against the Titans.

The game will be played at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, with kick off at 6.30pm.

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire, who admitted he was happy with that second half effort, has named an unchanged team to take on Gold Coast, who lost to the Cowboys in round three.

“I’m really pleased with the players,’’ Maguire, pictured above during the post match media conference, said after the Sharks match in which his side scored three unanswered second half tries.

Wests took a 10-0 lead early after two quick tries, but Cronulla hit back with three of their own after finding some defensive weaknesses on the right hand edge.

“It was our defence that changed most – we were getting beat on the edges,’’ Maguire said.

“That is where the boys changed and adapted to what was thrown at them,” he said.

“We probably put ourselves under a lot of pressure and allowed them to come in and put those plays on rather than controlling it through our completion rates.

“The edges sorted that out and then we were able to get a better field position which allowed us to put pressure back on Cronulla.’’
