Coach Jason Taylor

Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor said the 8-0 loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night was another step on the road to changing the playing culture of the team, turning them from entertainers who don’t win many games to a magnificent defensive machine that can repel any attack. JT was right about the 8 in the final result as they only conceded a single try. But the 0 in the equation must be a worry. Never fear, Top 5 to the rescue. Here are five tips we have for Jason Taylor – a coach we love and respect – for game plans that may help make the scoreboard a bit better looking for the Tiges and their long suffering fans:

Number 1: It’s best to always score more points than the other mob, because that gives you a really good chance of winning the game.

Number 2: If it’s Origin time and your most experienced defender – Robbie Farah -isn’t available, maybe it’s time to let the boys have a bit of fun with the ball. It will surprise the opponents and if the Tigers score more points than the opposition, even better.

Number 3: JT, give yourself a reminder that when you played you were a halfback, whose job is not to stop tries but to help score them.

Number 4: Spare a thought for all those people who come to your games; some people called the Cowboys match “dour’’. JT, trust me, they were just being nice.

Number 5: Give your pack licence to smash the opposition, because if your forwards aren’t dominating with the ball, no amount of defence is going to save your bacon.
