There are three Campbelltown based clubs in the Macarthur Conference rugby league competition, but none managed to make the first grade finals this season.
The closest was East Campbelltown Eagles, who finished one spot out of the top five.
This Sunday, Waminda Oval, the home of the mighty Eagles (pictured above), will be the venue for the second biggest game of the year, the preliminary final.
The Oaks Tigers will be taking on their neighbours, Oakdale Workers, at Waminda Oval, from 3pm, this Sunday, September 8.
The loser will be eliminated, while the winner will qualify for the grand final at Campbelltown Sports Ground a week later, where Camden Rams will be waiting for them.
Eagles club president Daniel Draper reckons a huge crowd will be in place at Waminda Oval, which is also hosting lower grade finals matches on Sunday and a day earlier on Saturday.
“This will be huge, no doubt, and how good is it Campbelltown hosting such a big match,’’ he told the South West Voice this morning.
Oakdale Workers defeated – and eliminated – Thirlmere Roosters 30-26 last Sunday in the minor final played at Kirkham Park, Camden.
In a really tight match, Oakdale scored six tries to five, while in the windy conditions Jake Steadman managed to land just three goals from six for attempts.
His opposite, Corey Norman, converted two from four attempts for the Roosters.
Minor premiers Camden Rams marched into the grand final after their comfortable major final 42-12 victory over The Oaks Tigers, also at Kirkham Park, pictured at right.
Out of an eight try haul, three went to Camden centre Jack Miller and two to second rower Trent Peoples.
Miller also converted five from eight attempts.
On the other side of the ledger, The Oaks Tigers scored just two tries, while captain coach and five eighth Mitchell Brasington converted both of them.
