Appin housing plan gets green light to go on exhibition
“We commend Appin residents for being passionate about their town’’ – Gerry Beasley, Walker Corporation executive planner.

Wollondilly Council last night gave the Walker Corporation’s revised Macquariedale Road, Appin planning proposal the green light to go back on public exhibition.

This decision follows substantial amendments to the proposal in response to community feedback.

Gerry Beasley, executive pplanner at Walker Corporation, said: “We commend Appin residents for being passionate about their town and its future, and voicing their opinions.

“We have listened to the feedback and altered our proposal accordingly, to deliver a plan that will benefit the community in the areas most important to residents.”

Mr Beasley says the decision is a substantial win for the community as the revised proposal will result in significant investment of over $10 million into Appin town, including the upgrade of the Appin main street, new and upgraded public amenities, and funding for a community grants program and green fund, all to the benefit of residents.

“We are extremely pleased that council has resolved to allow our amended plans to go back to the community for comment,’’ he said.

“Our amended proposal would deliver significant benefits in the way of new and upgraded facilities for families, housing and employment opportunities for the town of Appin, and new generations,” Mr Beasley said.

The public exhibition will provide residents with the opportunity to review the benefits of the proposal and submit feedback to Council.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the community and Council to communicate all the facts and keep an open dialogue throughout the process,’’ he said.

“Most importantly, we will continue to work on resolving the issue of the water pressure and our bigger picture solution for the upgrade of Appin Road with Council, State and Federal MPs and other developers,” Mr Beasley said.

The next step is for the amended Macquariedale Road, Appin Planning Proposal to go to the Department of Planning for a Gateway determination prior to forthcoming Council and community consultation.
