Vocational training revolution has arrived

A university campus for Liverpool is not the only wind of educational change blowing through the south west.

The vocational training revolution is also under way and a Liverpool company is poised to be a big part of it.

Uplift Vocational Training, which has its training and teaching rooms in Castlereagh Street, has just been given the green light by the Australian Government to operate as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Uplift Vocational Training is an extension – a new brother if you like – of the award winning tutoring service called Uplift Education.

Uplift Education has been helping local HSC students excel for many years, but it has now spread its wings into training adults who want to learn a trade or change careers.

Adam Ayash, who is the chairman of Uplift Vocational Training, says the ultimate aim is to list the company once it establishes its credentials as one of the best in the business.

He says this could take up to five years.

“The government says it wants people trained and back in the workforce  and it wants private enterprise to do it, because it’s more flexible than TAFE, which is regimented with its time,’’ Mr Ayash said.

“And when we were putting the vocational training company together we could see that some existing training organisations don’t do it properly, so we wanted to be different.

“And we want to be the best we can be, and in this industry if you want to be the best you have to make sure your compliance is 100 percent, and that’s our aim.

“We are getting the right trainers and we are offering community focused education to help those local people who want to be trained up and into jobs or if they want to change careers,’’ Mr Ayash said.

Every Saturday and Sunday and some weekday evenings more than 500 students from around the south west of Sydney attend tutoring classes at Uplift Education in Castlereagh Street.

“These are students who are going to get 90 but want to get 99 and we help them achieve that goal,’’ says Varun Sharma, the managing director of Uplift Education. (Watch a video of successful students describing their Uplift experience):

“We will continue to provide our excellent tutoring service, alongside the vocational training service,’’ Varun says.

And the vocational side will match the success rate of the tutoring service, adds Nass Roumieh, the CEO of Uplift Vocational Training.

“There’s not much we don’t do’, says Mr Roumieh, who attended Liverpool Boys High.

“I have been in the training industry since 1992 and have got to know other RTOs and we work together like a network.

“Which means if someone comes along and says can I do a plumbing course with you guys, I don’t ever say no to anyone, we can look after them.

“We have the network to rely on if we can’t do it ourselves,’’ he said.

While the south west, from Bankstown to Macarthur is the natural catchment area for the tutoring service, Mr Ayash say the vocational side can spread its wings.

“Vocational training is subject oriented so we can reach even further,’’ he said.

“But we are really here to help,’’ says Mr Roumieh.

“Even local business, we can save them a lot of money if they have one of their staff trained here in book keeping.

“It will be much better for them when the end of the financial year arrives and they have someone who can look after such an important part of the business.’’
