The installation of smart benches across Campbelltown has suffered a blow because of vandalism.
Two of the four benches currently being installed have been extensively damaged by vandals.
They were the benches at Macquarie Fields skate park, located on the corner of Canterbury Road and Victoria Road, and the St Helens Park dog leash free area.
Final WiFi connection and activation processes were under way and these benches were due to be WiFi connected within a fortnight.
Council is now in the process of reviewing CCTV footage of the sites where the vandalism took place.
In the meantime the damaged smart benches at both locations have been removed.
Council is hoping to repair the benches, however at this stage it is unknown if the damage can be repaired.
As part of its Smart City strategy, Campbelltown Council was installing four smart benches.
The other two, which were not vandalised, were installed at the Milton Park Dog Leash Free Area – located along Macquarie Road, Ingleburn and Leumeah Skate Park on the corner of Campbelltown Road and Plough Inn Road 4.

In other council news, a billboard advertising campaign on the Brookes Road bridge will encourage drivers along the Hume Highway to visit Campbelltown.
The campaign will run from late September and throughout October.
A partnership with the Australian Botanic Garden, the campaign will feature images of the Campbelltown Arts Centre and Botanic Garden.
Council says the campaign is perfectly timed to take advantage of the extra travellers on the road at this time of year heading to Tulip Time in Bowral, Floriade in Canberra and families going away for the spring school holidays.
Why is anybody surprised?
What stupid places to put them? How about near where the most people visit?
Why waste ratepayers money providing resources that some members of the public do not understand or appreciate?
This is why we can’t have nice things.
Stupid human
