Frontline healthcare staff who received their first injection of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine during phase 1a of the rollout at the Liverpool vaccination hub are back for their second dose this week.
South Western Sydney Local Health District’s first vaccine recipient, clinical director of critical care, associate professor Deepak Bhonagiri, is among the clinicians receiving their second dose.
“I am extremely pleased to be coming back for my second injection,’’ Dr Bhonagiri said.
“The injection is safe and quick and the process is highly efficient.
“I would encourage everyone to check their eligibility and find out when they can receive the vaccine.
“I am also pleased that my staff are being vaccinated and playing their part in helping to protect themselves, their patients, their families and the community.’’
The district’s chief executive Amanda Larkin thanked the staff at the hub for their outstanding work during the first weeks of the national vaccination rollout strategy.
“Extensive planning went into establishing the Liverpool vaccination hub and we have received a great deal of positive feedback about how smoothly and efficiently the operations are running,’’ Ms Larkin said.
“From the very first day of the rollout, we have opened our doors to frontline workers from other organisations and health districts, offering them the protection of vaccination.
“I am proud our district staff are playing a vital role in the national rollout.
“Their work is essential to keeping our community safe and is a fantastic reflection of the high-quality care we provide to our patients, consumers and community.’’
South Western Sydney Local Health District and NSW Health are working closely with the Australian Government during the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination program.
