Did you know that a wedding dress can be the single largest contributor to the huge carbon footprint of the average Australian wedding?
The production of the fabric and the transportation have a big impact.
So how do you have a unique dress, while still taking a responsible approach?
One word: upcycle.
Now Vinnies is helping brides and grooms celebrate their special day sustainably by holding an Upcycled Wedding Weekend at Vinnies Picton on September 7 and 8.
Whether couples are looking to embrace the growing eco-wedding trend or simply adopt a few environmentally friendly ideas to make their big day a bit more sustainable, they’ll find everything from gowns to gifts and decor to decorations at our one-off Upcycled Wedding Weekend at Vinnies Picton.
“Upcycling is a great way to ensure your wedding is uniquely you,” says Kerrie Meehan, Vinnies retail and enterprise manager for the region.
“We’ll show you ways to get creative with recycled materials – from using artificial flowers for an ecofriendly bouquet that won’t wilt, to creative table decorations using preloved crockery,’’ she said.
“I think savvy couples are increasingly finding ways to hold weddings with a social conscience.
“By sourcing outfits and décor from Vinnies, you’re not only reducing your impact on the environment and reducing the cost of your special day; the money you spend supports Vinnies’ programs for people facing hardship,” Ms Meehan said.
Savvy brides know that their wedding dress doesn’t have to be expensive to be perfect, and the Vinnies event will provide an opportunity to choose from dozens of styles and fabrics that can be combined or altered to create a one-of-a-kind design that suits their personality and style, at a fraction of the cost.
Vinnies will also showcase a host of wedding and party ideas that won’t break the bank, are kind to the environment and will reduce the carbon footprint of any occasion.
They will include pre-loved wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, mother of the bride outfit ideas, jewellery, shoes, bags, as well as suits and smart shirts.
Also, there will be examples of upcycled artificial flowers transformed into eco-friendly bouquets that won’t wilt, plus creative ideas for button holes, table centrepieces and other floral decorations.
Plus inspiration for wedding party table decorating using upcycled items, from cutlery and crockery to unique centrepieces.
There will also be offerings of gifts with a social conscience – fair trade jewellery and gift packs.
Finally, wedding outfit ideas for all members of the bridal party, and guests too.
Vinnies’ Upcycled Wedding Weekend takes place on Saturday, 7 September from 9am to 3pm and Sunday, 8 September from 10am to 3pm.
Vinnies Picton is located at 13 Colden Street, Picton.
