The League Tag grand final between Campbelltown and Camden was an arm wrestle for most of the game.
But it exploded when with 11 minutes to go and trailing 6-0, the Camden Rams piled on two converted tries in two minutes to race away to a 12-6 lead.
For the next few minutes the Camden girls held their nerve and looked set to take out the honours.
But somehow Campbelltown found a way to score in the western corner of Campbelltown Sports Stadium to make it 12-10.
Unfortunately the attempted conversion was unsuccessful and Camden were able to keep the home side at bay until the final whistle.
The first half had ended in a 0-0 stalemate as both defences worked extremely hard to keep the opposition out for the entire 25 minutes.
Campbelltown Kangaroos were the first to score early in the second half, but 6-0 was never going to be enough to stop Camden.
But while the Rams girls received the Group Six League Tag premiership trophy for 2016, it was Campbelltown Kangaroos captain and fullback Mel Ireland who was named player of the year.
The match was the first of today, which will culminate in the first grade grand final between Camden Rams and Picton Magpies from 7pm.
The Magpies are shooting for a historic fourth consecutive premiership, while Camden just want to avenge last year’s loss to Picton.
Either way it promises to be one of the great grand finals of recent years.
