[dropcap]T[/dropcap]hree podium finishes at the 2017 Pacific School Games have earned Damita Betham recognition from the NSW premier and her local MP.
Damita, who started competing as a nine year old with the Campbelltown Collegians Athletics Club, represented both NSW and Campbelltown at the games held in Adelaide last December.
The young track star from Rosemeadow took part in a range of events, producing valiant efforts that were rewarded with podium finishes in the 11 years girls 100 metre (2nd), 11 years girls shot put (3rd) and the mixed NSW 11 year old 4×200 metre relay (3rd).
Following such outstanding performances, Damita is looking at a promising future, with a high likelihood as a future Olympian, says the Member for Campbelltown, Mr Greg Warren.
“The greatest athletes of our nation start at the local level with their clubs and schools, as it provides the bedrock for the beginning of what can be an Olympic career,” he said.
Last Thursday, Mr Warren presented Damita with a certificate from the Premier and himself recognising her NSW athletics representation in Adelaide.
Mr Warren said he was proud to present the local athlete with the award and that he was inspired by her commitment to her sport and herself.
Damita’s parents, Ernest and Janet Betham, who shared their pride at their daughter’s achievements, attended the presentation of the certificate.
