The 2016 Festival of Fisher's Ghost is set to usher in an exciting new era.
It’s all happening: The 2016 Festival of Fisher’s Ghost is set to usher in an exciting new era.

As the 2016 countdown continues, Australia’s most famous ghost, Fred Fisher, is chuffed so many community groups are coming  to his party, and getting into the spirit of this year’s Festival of Fisher’s Ghost which runs between November 4 and 13.

Kicking off the party, Club Menangle will host the Fisher’s Ghost Family Race Day at Racecourse Avenue, Menangle Park next Sunday, October 30 .

Entry will be free and there will be free activities for the kids, including rides, fairy floss, face painting, mini trotters and pony rides from noon to 5pm.

• Keeping with the Ghosts, Ghouls and Graveyards theme of this year’s festival, two guided walking tours of St Peter’s Cemetery – believed to be the resting place of Fred Fisher – will be held during the festival. On Saturday, November 5, the tour will focus on Campbelltown’s notable characters while on Saturday, November 12, the tour will look at our local pioneers. Both tours, hosted by Campbelltown Anglican Churches, will run from 7pm to 8.30pm and will be followed by supper in the historic church.

Cost is $5 per person and bookings are essential. Go online here to secure your tickets.

• Eat Shop Love will host the Fisher’s Ghost Party in the Park on Saturday, November 5 from noon to 6pm. After enjoying the Fisher’s Ghost Street parade, pop on down to Koshigaya Park for market stalls, food, children’s activities, entertainment and a picnic.

Come dressed in your favourite costumes to celebrate the festival and be in the running for a cool prize.

• The 13th annual Fisher’s Ghost Stamp Fair will be held on Sunday, November 6 from 9am to 3.30pm at the Campbelltown Civic Hall.

Talk to stamp and coin dealers, see the displays and, if you’re game, make a bid at the auction.

A light lunch will be available and the event is free.

• Enjoy the pleasing sounds of the Sweet Tonic Singers Annual Concert on Saturday, November 12 from 2pm to 4pm at Campbelltown Arts Centre.

Performances from the choral group will be both accompanied and a’capella, and in English and other languages.

Cost is $20 adults and $15 for students and pensioners.

• For those who love sport, the Campbelltown Harlequins Rugby Club will host the Fisher’s Ghost International Rugby Sevens Tournament on Saturday, November 12 from 10am to 8pm at Campbelltown Showground, King Street, Campbelltown.

It will see 16 men’s sides and 10 women’s sides battle it out for $5,000 in prizemoney for the men’s winner, and $2,000 in prize money for the women’s winner.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the community’s interest in the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost was reflected in the diverse and growing number of associated events planned each year.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Everyone wants to be part of Fred’s party,’’ says the mayor.[/social_quote]

“Events range from a great family picnic at Koshigaya Park and family race day at Club Menangle, to a spooky, historic tour through St Peter’s Cemetery, music, stamp collecting and rugby,” he said.

“Everyone is invited and I encourage you to get out and about during the two weeks of the festival.”
