Children of all ages will need their bike, walking shoes, cozzies or even their creativity to fully enjoy the huge variety of activities on offer through Campbelltown City Council’s summer school holiday program.
Council’s Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre will host open days from 10am to 3pm on weekdays and Sundays during the January school holidays (excluding public holidays).
Free activities will include:
• balance bike sessions on two Mondays, January 15 and 22, 10am to midday;
• a jumping castle on Wednesdays, January 17 and 24, 10am to 3pm;
• face painting on Fridays January 12 and 19, 10am to midday.
• Entry is free – just bring your own bike or scooter and helmet.
Pool inflatable days are always popular, and will be held at Campbelltown City’s three leisure centres in January.
The activities, free after pool admission, will be held at:
• Eagle Vale Central on January 2, 9 and 16 from 2pm to 4pm;
• Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre on January 3, 10 and 17 from midday to 2pm;
• Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre January 4, 11 and 18 from 10am to midday.
A raft of activities will also be held across the three leisure centres on Australia Day, Friday, January 26, and entry will be half-price on the day.
Campbelltown Arts Centre will provide children with the opportunity to learn and explore their artistic talents with a range of activities, which include:
• a visit from Taronga Zoo’s travelling Zoomobile on Monday, January 15;
• Arty Party, an action-packed workshop inspired by Indonesian culture on Wednesday, January 17;
• Art Explorers, where kids will explore the Arts Centre and use different materials and textures to create their own ideas inspired by its exhibitions and gardens, on Thursday, January 18;
• Einsteinz Music, interactive music classes taught by professional musicians on Friday, January 19.
School holiday care at Campbelltown and Eagle Vale is a great option for working families, with a range of excursions and theme days on offer.
It runs from 7am to 6pm on weekdays (excluding public holidays) and will ensure the kids have lots of fun, with activities including a Hide’n’Seek tournament, a pizza party and a sports gala day, in addition to excursions to Illawarra Inflatable Play Centre, Dumaresq Street Cinemas and Kingpin Bowling and Laser Skirmish.
Campbelltown library service will offer a great range of activities to keep kids busy during the break.
Crocodile Encounters, Macrame Madness and the Batman Lego Movie (PG) are just some of the activities of interest to five to 12-year-olds, while 12 to 18-year-olds will enjoy Retro Gaming, and kids of all ages can take part in board games with friends and family during Games Week, January 2-7.
A new summer “sensory” walk on Saturday, January 20, added to the annual program of Guided Walking Tours of the beautiful Dharawal National Park, is an option for kids keen on the outdoors.
The summer walk is suitable for people of all ages, and will give participants the opportunity to taste bush foods, touch and smell the diverse native vegetation and hear the sounds of the bush.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said local children had a huge program of activities and events to choose from, catering to diverse interests, ages and abilities.
“There’ll be no reason for Campbelltown’s kids to get bored these school holidays, with a summer program bursting with opportunities to learn or just have fun at council’s libraries, leisure centres, school holiday care centres, arts centre and even at the national park,” he said.
