Pho, green curry and baklava – that’s the sort of culinary experience local foodies could only dream about.
But it’s quickly becoming the norm across the four corners of the Macarthur region.
Camden is next cab off the rank with the inaugural “taste of cultures food walking tours’’.
There will be two on offer as part of Camden Festival: 10.45am-2pm next Thursday, September 19 and on Sunday, September 29 – which is the day Taste Camden returns for a second year.
An initiative of the Camden Council Cohesive Communities Advisory Group, the tours will include:
- Morning tea, including scones and lamingtons, and an Art Gallery tour at Alan Baker Art Gallery;
- Vietnamese dishes at Běp Bĕ Mâp Vietnamese Restaurant;
- Pad Cha, green curry, Tod Mun Pla and more Thai treats at Fan Thai Restaurant;
- European sweets at The Argyle Gourmet.
Běp Bĕ Mâp manager Sang Ngo, pictured above with Camden Mayor Theresa Fedeli, said they were excited to be involved.
“Participants will be taste testing mini savoury pancakes, spring rolls, rice paper rolls and pho when they visit us,” Sang said.
“It’s what we cooked in our village in Vietnam, but with a twist.
“This event is so exciting for us because our community is becoming more and more multicultural, which is great.
“We love being able to teach our neighbours about our food and culture – and we love learning about others too.”
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the tours were a perfect fit with Taste Camden.
“Between the food and drink providers at Taste Camden, the fresh produce vendors in the SmoothFM Produce Lane and these walking tours, our residents will be eating their way through the Town Centre,” Cr Fedeli said.
The mini market of Produce Lane on September 29 will be bigger and better than ever at this year’s Taste Camden, with even more fresh food to try and take home, including:
- Artisan Delish, a family owned and operated business selling traditional Italian salami and local produce;
- Brasserie Bread, with sourdough breads, croissants and tarts;
- Kieltys Irish Sauces, selling artisan barbecue and hot sauces;
- The Bearded Oak, with homemade pasta and stir-through sauces to take home;
- Currong Comestibles, with cordials, chutneys and jams based on Australian native ingredients;
- The Fudge Shop, selling handmade fudge, toffee apples, caramel apples and fairy floss; and
- Nougat Limar, with pre-packaged, French-style nougat.
